What do I need to know about Hepatitis C testing?
Hepatitis C tests are used to detect and diagnose an infection and/or to monitor the treatment of hepatitis C virus (HCV).  Anti-HCV test detects the presence of antibodies to the virus, indicating exposure to HCV.

What kind of sample is necessary for this test?
A small blood sample is drawn at one of our Patient Service Centers.

Any test preparation needed?
No preparation is needed for this test.

What does my Hepatitis C test result mean?
A positive result indicates you have been exposed to the Hepatitis C virus and have developed antibodies as a consequence.  If the result is negative, you have not been exposed to hepatitis C, nor do you have antibodies to fight the disease.  For a weak positive the CDC suggests to get tested again in three months since anti-bodies appear after several months.
